Course description
Genomics is a novel field of research in genetics. It is the discipline that studies the genome of living organisms by determining the complete DNA sequences found in genophores and chromosomes (structural genomics) and the expression patterns of genes (functional genomics).
It also includes the study of the proteins found in the cells and tissues that make up the body of living beings (proteomics). As well as the evolutionary relationships of organisms based on nucleic acid sequences (molecular phylogenies). The tools used to tackle this research are essentially inter- and multidisciplinary: bioinformatics and microarrays.
The complete genomes of about 2,600 living beings have now been sequenced.
